Do you ever wonder how the world’s CEOs got their start? We’ll let you in on a little secret. Ours started out in Cigna’s very own Financial Development Program (FDP) and so can you.
The FDP, one of Cigna’s premier rotation programs, is designed to take early-career MBAs and CPAs and provide them with the knowledge, skills, and training needed to fill key leadership positions across the enterprise. While we provide you with time in the classroom and in various training sessions, we know you have the skills, experiences, and talent to develop meaningful solutions for our customers. That’s why we’ll have you manage projects that help push Cigna further in the health care industry revolution.
With the FDP, there's no limit to the opportunities for you to learn and grow as a leader. How will you drive growth and improve lives?
For experienced hires, applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
If you're a second-year MBA student, applications open up annually in the summer.
Locations for the first rotation:
Hartford, CT | Philadelphia, PA | Nashville, TN St. Louis, MO
After the initial rotation, associates are welcome to relocate to another Cigna office if a role allows.
Who we hire:
Candidates who are working towards or have completed their MBA or CPA designation with 3 - 5 years of experience.
5-7 years depending on the complexity and length of the 3-4 rotations you choose.

As a member of the Financial Development Program, you'll rotate through several areas of the organization and gain exposure to the following:
Financial Reporting, Corporate Finance, and Financial Planning and Analysis
Financial Strategy, Corporate Development, and Enterprise Strategy
Data & Analytics
Underwriting & Healthcare Pricing
Provider Contracting & Operations
Robotic Process Engineering
Accounting / Audit
Treasury / Capital Management
Example of rotations available to program participants:
Rotation 1 - Financial Planning & Analysis
In this rotation, you'll manage reporting, projection, and analysis for a book of business. This includes identifying risks and opportunities by developing a comprehensive package for annual plan and re-projection processes, partnering cross-functionally to analyze and report financial results, and delivering on process improvements to drive efficiencies.
Rotation 2 - Underwriting
In this rotation, you’ll have direct impact on the business by managing an assigned book of business within a designated market. This includes performing case-specific risk assessments, understanding profitability, and developing strategic recommendations related to market competition and product development.
Rotation 3 - Controller
As a controller, you'll ensure the integrity of the financial accounting and reporting processes for a specific market and product. This includes establishing, maintaining, and monitoring the expense management process, as well as internal controls, to ensure the existence of a sound financial infrastructure.
Rotation 4 - Financial Strategy
In this rotation, you’ll play a key role in driving financial and strategic initiatives across the growth platforms. This includes developing strategic frameworks, customer and competitor insights, and businesses cases to drive analysis and decision support for the big questions across the enterprise.

The program offers a robust mentorship program that provides the opportunity to learn from mentors at multiple levels of the organization and gain exposure to senior and executive leadership.

Still in the first year of your MBA? Check out our summer internship.
During our 10-week summer internship program, participants are exposed to all aspects of Cigna's finance department as they work on projects crucial to our growth and success. As an intern you could manage a project that ranges from creating an M&A Valuation model to developing a financial strategy or robotic process automation.
While applications typically open up in the early fall, make sure to check with your school's career center for specific application deadlines and potential on-campus interview dates. If we don’t have any events at your school, make sure to apply online by January.
